Cleary and production designer Annie Beauchamp have built a world that is entirely convincing, with the technology being so ingrained in the lives of the characters that it is almost possible to forget that it is fictional.

The location of Dr. Scott’s facility, which is tucked away in the woods and boasts a generous amount of open space, is reminiscent of heaven. Awkwafina plays the role of the lone other patient in the show. Cameron pays a visit to her new doppelganger as he is weighing his alternatives to get a better sense of how well the procedure operates.

Both Ali and Awkwafina make their original characters and the doppelgangers just distinct enough so that we can tell the difference while still buying into the idea that no one they know will be able to see it. Although we can tell the difference, we still buy into the idea that no one they know will be able to see it.

Ali is the star, playing a character, or rather two characters, who are quiet and introspective by nature. Awkwafina and Harris provide extraordinarily nuanced and complex performances, but Ali is the standout, portraying a character who is quiet and introspective by nature. In spite of this, he is able to communicate all of the conflicting feelings that both Camerons experience as they attempt to make sense of their unique relationship.
