What is the meaning of the song 17 again by one direction?
On January 10, 2000, it was made available to consumers as the album’s second single release. The pair looks back on their lengthy career in pop music during the course of the song ’17 Again,’ which has those words. An excerpt from the song “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” first released in 1983, may be heard at the end of “17 Again.”
How did Mike turn back into his 17-year-old self?
Plot: In 1989, Scarlet Porter, girlfriend of 17-year-old star athlete Mike O’Donnell, breaks the news to him that she is pregnant only a few seconds before the high-school championship game that would likely determine whether or not he receives a scholarship.
Mike plays for the first few seconds of the game, and then he walks off the court and goes after Scarlet, abandoning his ambitions of going to college and having a profession that may support them in the future. Scarlet and Mike are now an item. Mike, at 37 years old, is dissatisfied with his life since it has become mundane and dull, and he gives up on every endeavor he begins.
Since Scarlet, who is now his wife and the mother of his two children, has petitioned for a divorce, he has no choice but to move in with his nerdy but incredibly wealthy best friend, Ned Gold. After being passed over for a promotion that he believes he deserves, he has decided to leave his job, and his two children who are still in high school, Maggie, age 18, and Alex, age 16, do not want to have anything to do with him.
- Later on, while traveling, Mike has an encounter on a bridge with a janitor, which causes him to revert back to the person he was when he was 17 years old.
- After Mike was able to persuade Ned of his true identity, Ned came to the conclusion that Mike’s metamorphosis was brought about by a mysterious spirit guide who is attempting to direct him toward a more positive course of action.
Mike decides to enroll in high school under the guise of Ned Gold’s son, Mark, and with the intention of attending college on a basketball scholarship. As Mike grows closer to his bullied son and learns that his daughter has a boyfriend named Stan who does not respect her and frequently torments Alex, he comes to believe that his purpose in life is to assist them in some way.
- Mike is able to spend time with Scarlet thanks to their children.
- During this time, Scarlet is aware that Mike bears a striking resemblance to her husband, but she brushes it off as a strange coincidence.
- Mike makes the decision to also work on repairing his relationship with Scarlet, and as part of this process, he starts finishing all of the garden projects that he abandoned as an adult under the guise of getting “volunteer credit.” He tries all in his power to keep Stan and Maggie apart, while simultaneously urging Alex to build up his self-assurance in order to improve his chances of making the basketball team and going out with Nicole, a girl who he has a crush on.
Despite the fact that Mike’s connection with Scarlet is completely wrong, he has a hard time suppressing his desire for her. While this is going on, Ned begins to pursue Jane Masterson, the principal of the school, by doing increasingly extravagant stunts in an effort to win her affections.
- Despite the fact that she vehemently rejects his advances, she does agree to go on a date with him after he offers to buy laptops for the school.
- On the date, Jane is not at all interested in Ned until he lets down his “smart rich-guy” facade and reveals that he is, in fact, a nerd.
- After that, she becomes utterly enamored with him.
After that, Jane demonstrates her own interest for geek culture by conversing with him in Elvish, which ultimately leads to the two of them becoming good friends. Mike throws a party at Ned’s house to celebrate a basketball game win while Ned is out with Jane.
During the party, Mike confronts Stan, who recently rejected Maggie for not sleeping with him. Ned is not present at the party since he is out with Jane. Mike is knocked unconscious, and when he comes to, Maggie is standing over him attempting to seduce him. Maggie decides to leave after her father, Mike, informs her that he has fallen in love with someone else, which is very relieving for Mike.
When Scarlet arrives to the party, she is concerned about whether or not her children would be there, but Mike reassures her by telling her that Alex is now dating his long-time infatuation. The two engage in a personal chat, during which Mike, swept up in the excitement of the moment, makes a pass at kissing her.
- As Mike vainly tries to explain his genuine identity, she walks out in a huff, disgusted by what she’s seen.
- On the day when the court hearing to finalize Scarlet and Mike’s divorce is scheduled to take place, Mike makes one more attempt to win Scarlet back (as Mark) by reading a letter that is purported to be from Mike.
He says that despite the fact that he wasn’t able to make things right at the beginning of his life, the fact that he still loves her is unaffected by this fact at all. After he leaves, Scarlet realizes that the “letter” is actually the directions to the courthouse, and she begins to feel a growing sense of curiosity about the situation.
As a direct consequence of this, she decides to put the divorce off by one month. Mike, disheartened by the fact that he was unable to save his marriage, makes the decision to once again try to win a scholarship and start a new life for himself. Mike exposes his identity to Scarlet as they are both attending a game of high school basketball.
As Scarlet makes her escape, Mike makes the same choice he made in 1989 and decides to go after her. However, he does not do so before passing the ball on to his kid. Mike is subsequently turned back into his 37-year-old self, and he joyfully reunites with Scarlet, expressing that choosing to be with her was the finest choice he’s ever made.
